Next on the Tee: Did You Know? Hal Sutton's Hall of Fame Résumé Speaks for Itself

Hal Sutton has always been one of those guests who speaks from the heart. He’s genuine, honest, and every bit as impressive away from the golf course as he was on it.

His competitive résumé started early: 1980 College Player of the Year, 14 collegiate victories at Centenary, two-time First-Team All-American, two-time Trans America Athletic Conference Player of the Year, and an NCAA Tournament appearance with Centenary.

He also won the 1980 U.S. Amateur Championship before going on to the PGA Tour, where his first victory came at the 1982 Walt Disney World National Team Championship. The following year he held off his idol Jack Nicklaus to win the PGA Championship. He added the Players Championship that year and was named the PGA Tour Player of the Year. We all remember his "Be the right club today" quote when he defeated Tiger Woods by a stroke to win the 2000 Players Championship. More recently he is the golf course Designer of The Darmoor Golf Club outside of Houston, which Golf Digest named one of the best new private clubs in the country for 2025.

The trophies tell one part of the story. His character as a husband, father, grandfather, and loyal friend tells the rest. In every sense that matters, Hal Sutton already has a Hall of Fame résumé.
